Alpha-lipoic acid is both fat and water soluble, which means it can work right throughout the body. It appears to regenerate other used antioxidants and make them active again.  Alpha lipoic-acid helps the body to fight inflammation, as well as reduce wrinkles and age-related skin damage.

What the studies say

There is research to support the use of alpha lipoic-acid as an antioxidant and as an anti-ageing agent in skincare products. A few studies have suggested that alpha-lipoic acid supplements may enhance the body's ability to use its own insulin. There is emerging research that suggests it plays a role in the prevention of bone loss as we age.
