More about collagen

Collagen is a protein essential for the structure and function of connective tissues, which bond other tissues and organs together. Collagen is also the most integral part of the skin’s fabric and naturally forms its mesh-like structure. Ageing is closely associated with the loss of collagen and the deterioration of connective tissues; therefore supplementation with collagen can help to counteract these negative consequences. In addition to three types of collagen, this product provides glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate. GAGs are required for healthy structure and function of connective tissues, including joints and the skin dermis. Vitamin C is an antioxidant as well as an essential component in the process of making collagen. Additional antioxidants from red wine and grape seed extracts help prevent cell damage and consequent ageing that is caused by free radical damage.

What the studies say

Although there aren't many studies on collagen supplements, a 2014 study found women who took a collagen supplement showed improvements in skin elasticity. Its topical use is also supported by research in various skincare products. One study has shown collagen can support the muscle mass growth in men.
